ANNA  POLITKOVSKAYA FUND

The Anna Politkovskaya Fund has in its archive 67 cases of individual people, families, and humanitarian organizations to which it tries to offer substantial help. Among better-known cases are those of Victor Fainberg (Soviet dissident), Boris Stomakhin (politprisoner in Russia), the families of Chechen refugees who are in acute need: Ibragim Kazuev, Aslan Batashev, Said-Khusseyn Aliev and many others. We are trying to save the life of one more detainee, Z. Zubayraev, who was sentenced in a fabricated case, and who was subjected to unbearable tortures prison in Volgograd(Russia). We helped the Russian journalist Elena Maglevannaya, who was connected with the case of Zubayraev. She was threatened by neo-nazis in her native town of Volgograd, and we assisted with her escape to Finlandto ask for political asylum. In all of these cases we helped both financially and “parajuridically”, (writing letters of recommendation, petitions, inquiries, letter to European and American leaders, and the like). We protest in many ways against deportations of Chechen refugees from countries where they seek refuge. One is Murat Gassaev, a Chechen refugee in Spain, who was arrested under pressure from the Russian government. We wrote to the Spanish Court, explaining the situation, we wrote articles about it that were published in several magazines and websites. Nevertheless, Gassaev was deported to Russia on the night of Dec.31 2007. After many additional protests, he was released from prison (in Russia) after 10 months. .

The Fund supports a newly created (by Imran Abdulazimov—in Turkey) humanitarian organization, Imkader, to help multi-children families and single mothers.
